Azzurri spins off cabling business

VAR wants to focus on its voice, data and mobility activities

Azzurri says that cabling was non-core to its business

Azzurri Communications has outsourced its cabling business to help hone its focus on its core voice, data and mobility activities.

Electrical engineering firm Wesley Services has taken over the VAR’s structured cabling and associated infrastructure activities. Staff who worked in Azzurri’s connectivity team have been transferred to Wesley as part of the deal.

Azzurri inherited a cabling business through its 2005 acquisition of rival MiTech. But chief technical officer David Macfarlane said the activity was no longer core to its business model.

He told CRN: “Azzurri is a leading VoIP, data and mobility provider and while cabling is important to us there were more efficiencies to be had by outsourcing it.

“We have sold the business and will now buy back the services from Wesley and others.”

Macfarlane said that the transaction had “no monetary value” for Azzurri.

Eric Thickett, chairman of Wesley Holdings, said: “We will work through Azzurri to promote state of the art, standards based, architectures to the Azzurri clients and make sure that the network foundations are secure and robust to carry the network solutions offered by Azzurri."
