AMD chips in with 5k86 part release.

Clone chip manufacturer AMD formally announced availability of its 5k86 chip parts last week.

But AMD was able only to release P75 and P90 versions of the family, despite promising quantity volume of a P100 later in the year.

Microsoft has certified the chips' compatibility with W95 and, unlike Intel's chips, they will carry the famous logo.

The big surprise was the pricing. Although AMD had been expected to discount Intel's prices heavily, the P75 units cost $75 in quantities of 1,000 while the P90 is $99.

AMD added a cautionary note to its announcements. 'The forward looking statements.are subject to risks and uncertainties and actual results may differ from those currently expected,' it said.
