Promethean to offer free online training to teachers

Prometheanlearning.com offers Virtual Learning Environment accreditation

Promethean’s channel partners are set to benefit from a web site that offers Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) accreditation including free online training to teachers.

Prometheanlearning.com offers free accredited courses to help teachers make the most of their interactive whiteboard (IWB) technology.

Steve Dracup, director of partner management at Promethean, said: “Channel players have reported lack of training as a barrier to repeat business, but to get the most out of interactive systems, it is important for teachers to possess the relevant knowledge.

“Where teachers are too busy to attend formal training sessions or the budget is simply not available, Prometheanlearning.com offers a solution. As a free training resource, it is also an easy way for our partners to add value to the sale.”

Rival vendor Smart Technologies said it had been offering free online training for teachers for about two years and recently launched its own customer support web site.

Nancy Knowlton, chief executive of Smart, said: “Our newly designed customer support web site ensures that customers will get the help they need in an efficient and timely manner.”

Promethean added that it has also offered online training for a number of years. Dracup said: “Our portal is also a VLE, so the user will receive accreditation at the end of the course. All schools are supposed to have a VLE by 2009 and we can now help to deliver that.”

Prometheanlearning.com’s courses consist of interactive tutorials in 10 topics, each of which involves an assessment and flipchart design task.
