Computer 2000 lands NCD deal

Thin client vendor Network Computing Devices (NCD) has broken up its distribution duopoly in the UK by appointing broadliner Computer 2000.
The wholesale giant will take on the vendor's range of thin client hardware and software in the UK, extending a deal it has with most of NCD's other European subsidiaries. Computer 2000 will join Sphinx CST and Swiss distributor ADTCOM Network Computing in the UK.
Meg Sung, UK country manager at NCD, said the appointment was fuelled by growth in the thin client market.
"Computer 2000 has the sheer volume of resellers we require, as well as the ability to focus on SMEs and ASPs, two sectors through which we are expanding," she said.
Sung claimed C2000's appointment would cause minimal disruption for its other distributors. "ADTCO has a very small presence in the UK and Sphinx is very focused. We will all be working together," she said.
Tim Goldring, general manager for northern Europe at ADTCOM, said: "It's not a surprise, and it makes sense as the market is growing so much.
"We will lose some business but we won't get left out as we are strengthening our Internet and market-making capabilities. I imagine it will weaken Sphinx's position as it is not as focused."
