Compaq divides channel unit

Compaq is set to restructure its UK channel business in a move which it claims will lead to increased reseller investment and a number of major partner initiatives over the next three months.

At the same time, Compaq announced that Nick Offin, UK channel partners director, and Stuart Curzon, enterprise group director, have left the company.

Formed in October 1999, the partner business unit will be split into two divisions. The channel business unit, headed by Mike Morgan, will be responsible for all resellers, distributors, independent software vendors and retailers.

The business development group, run by Mike Johnston, will look after application service providers, internet service providers and data centres, as well as sourcing business both directly and for the channel.

Johnston and Morgan will take over Offin's role within Compaq, while Curzon's replacement has yet to be announced.

Morgan said the changes pave the way for major developments over the next three months. "It will lead to increased investment and resources for the channel, and we will expand to introduce new initiatives and certifications. This is the beginning of an evolution for Compaq," he claimed.

Morgan added that the departures of Offin and Curzon were unrelated to the redevelopment of the company's channel business.
