IBM looks to grow strategy in Ireland
IBM is understood to be reviewing its Irish distribution strategy, which could result in the signing of a second distributor for the region.
Sharptext is Big Blue’s sole Irish distributor for PCs, storage and software. However, the vendor is believed to be looking to expand its roster.
One VAR, who asked to remain anonymous, said Clarity Computer Distribution has been “put into the frame” as the second distributor for IBM’s X series. The source added: “A second distributor will increase IBM’s focus in Ireland and open up credit supply lines for resellers in the region.”
Shaune Parsons, managing director of Computer World Wales, said: “This would give Irish IBM resellers great product access and allow them to negotiate better pricing.”
Sharptext, Clarity and IBM all declined to comment.
