Sun buys Beduin
Sun Microsystems has acquired Canadian software house Beduin Communications, which makes a slimmed-down Java Web browser for cellphones. The move gives the vendor a Java technology to license in a sector that it has often described as a classic Java market, but scarcely addressed. Impact, the browser developed by the 12-person company, takes up 260K of memory, about one-third less than rival small footprint products.
The browser's first licensee was telco Nortel.
