Computacenter to supply videoconferencing facilities through GCat deal

Computacenter has won a tender to supply 36 videoconferencing facilities to the Scottish Executive through the Government Catalogue (GCat) procurement arrangements.

The equipment will allow teams from the Learning and Teaching Scotland educational organisation to communicate without incurring travel costs.

Computacenter is a preferred supplier through GCat. It was the sole supplier in GCat back in 1997, but has since been joined by 25 other firms.

"We benefit the public sector because we take away the procurement responsibility from customers and offer them our in-depth IT knowledge," said Paul Greaves, client director for the government sector at Computacenter. "The government sector is now our biggest division."

Maureen Gore, head of procurement at Learning and Teaching Scotland, said the GCat IT procurement system is a successful way of ensuring quality for buyers that lack technical know-how.

"For this project GCat has been extremely useful because it gave us a good partner immediately," she said.
