New Xeon range unveiled

Intel to provide training and support for server products

Intel has launched a range of Xeon workstation and server products for resellers after Paul Otellini, the firm's chief operating officer, said the channel was the highlight of its third quarter.

The new range is made up of 12 processors, chipsets and platforms to build systems suitable for SMEs to enterprises.

Sam Bellemy, Intel's product marketing manager for the channel, said: "Intel resellers continue to have success in growing their server business. These products are designed to support that growth into 2003.

"We want to enable resellers to build, sell, service and deploy server platforms where they can make healthy margins."

Intel said it will provide training and support for the server products.

"It's no good providing a CPU and saying get on with it. You need to support the channel," said Bellemy.

Julian Smith, Intel product manager at Ingram Micro, said Intel is making the right moves in the channel. "There are six channel conferences this year, compared with three last year. Intel recognises how the channel goes to market," he said.
