A year after stepping down from the executive seat at Softcat, channel veteran Graeme Watt has rejoined the industry, this time as non-executive chairman of Zurich-HQ distie, Infinigate.

The decision was made by Infinigate’s management and majority owners, Bridgepoint, the company announced today.

Watt, who has over 35 years of experience in IT, takes on this role following a long career in leadership positions at firms like Tech Data, Avnet, and most recently, Softcat.

His appointment comes at a time when Infinigate is expanding its global footprint, having recently extended its reach into Australia and New Zealand through acquisitions like Wavelink.

Watt is no stranger to steering companies through significant growth.

During his time at Softcat, where he served as CEO and later as non-executive chairman, he oversaw the company’s rapid expansion, including its first steps into international markets like Ireland.

Under his leadership, Softcat became one of the UK's leading value-added resellers, known for its employee-centric culture and sustained financial success.

Watt’s tenure also included several operational challenges, such as managing the company through the COVID-19 pandemic and navigating shifts in market demand.

In his new position at Infinigate, Watt will focus on guiding the cybersecurity, infrastructure and cloud-focused distributor’s strategic growth, emphasising the opportunities in value-added cybersecurity services.

"I am delighted to take on this leadership role and help Infinigate navigate its next phase of growth in the cybersecurity sector,” Watt commented.

“There is a considerable opportunity for specialist, added-value cybersecurity platforms and Infinigate has the expertise, business know-how and market reach to succeed.”

Infinigate’s CEO, Klaus Schlichtherle, added: "Graeme’s experience in leading successful IT businesses will be crucial as we pursue our growth objectives in collaboration with our partners."

Rotkreuz-HQ Infinigate Group currently operates in over 100 countries and reported €2.3bn in revenue for the 2023-2024 financial year, focusing on cybersecurity and cloud solutions for both SMB and enterprise clients.

In August, the distie posted solid revenue growth for the first quarter of the financial year 2024-2025, with a revenue uptick of 16 per cent year-on-year, earning €600m in Q1 and bucking the overall trend in the sector.
