Reading-based MSSP Bridewell has named Sam Thornton as COO and new board member to drive the company’s expansion plans.

Thornton has been brought on to boost client relationships, contribute to the board’s strategic direction, and leverage its knowledge in stakeholder management, information assurance, and risk advisory.

The cybersecurity expert came into IT in 2006, joining CSC (now DXC Technology) as an account security manager.

He was at CSC for nearly nine years before moving to Trustwave, where he became senior security consultant.

One year later, in 2016, he onboarded with NCC Group as executive principal consultant.

His new role at Bridewell marks his entry into the C-suite.

“We are pleased to formally welcome Sam to Bridewell, as his passion for cybersecurity, along with his extensive experience and expertise, will play a key role in propelling the business forward,” said Anthony Young, CEO of Bridewell.

“Sam is a wonderful new addition to our leadership team and board of directors, helping us to streamline our operations as we continue to expand the business globally.”

Thornton added: “Watching Bridewell’s progression within the industry has been quite enviable, especially from an outside perspective.

“I’m passionate about contributing to Bridewell’s success, driving global expansion and leveraging the excellent capabilities in place today to expand Bridewell’s influence in the cybersecurity industry - without losing the core values that make the business great today."

His appointment follows the recent departure of executive director and former co-CEO, Scott Nicholson, who left the organisation “to spend more time with family and take some time out.”
