Pulsant buys SCC datacentres in Birmingham and Fareham
The infrastructure provider now counts 14 datacentres across the UK
Pulsant is to acquire two datacentres from SCC in Birmingham and Fareham, to expand its presence to areas “that have traditionally been underserved in terms of digital infrastructure.”
The move enhances the company’s network of 14 datacentres across the UK.
The deal will include the transfer of colocation-only clients to Pulsant, and a new strategic partnership between the two companies for critical colocation services across the UK.
The partnership includes access to Pulsant’s UK network of datacentres for all SCC clients.
Based in Birmingham, the Cole Valley datacentre has a power capacity of around 2 MW with potential for expansion.
The Fareham datacentre is a carrier-neutral facility, with a mix of corporate and service provider colocation customers with a power capacity of around 3 MW.
Both sites offer 25,000-square-foot of datacentre white space.
"With the addition of two new datacentres, we’ve expanded our UK coverage, strengthening our presence near key economic hubs that have traditionally been underserved in terms of digital infrastructure,” said Rob Coupland, CEO of Pulsant.
“This will enable more businesses to benefit from Pulsant’s unique network of datacentres and platformEDGE to reach new markets and grow their organisations.
“SCC has an outstanding reputation, and we’re delighted to partner with them to support clients with their future colocation requirements.”
James Rigby, co-CEO of SCC, added: “SCC has been carefully reviewing options for the future of our datacentres for some time.
“Ensuring continuity for our customers, opportunities for our people, and a future-proofed infrastructure was critical in our decision.
“Pulsant’s expertise and commitment to growing its UK datacentre footprint made them the ideal choice, and we look forward to working closely with Pulsant during this transition.”
The datacentres’ engineers and operational team members will be transferred to Pulsant on completion of the deal, expected in April 2025.
This investment follows a series transaction made Pulsant in its datacentre infrastructures over the past years.
On 18 March, the firm upgraded its SE3 datacentre network in Reading.
Over the last two years, the organisation has spent £9m to improve the capabilities of its Manchester datacentre.
In addition to Birmingham, Fareham, Manchester, and Reading, the company owns facilities in Edinburgh, Newcastle, Rotherham, Milton Keynes, Maidenhead, and Croydon.
