SCC buys audiovisual reseller, citing 'accelerated convergence'

'Accelerated convergence of IT and visual communications' cited as motivation behind SCC's latest bolt-on acquisition

SCC has made an acquisition in the audiovisual space, citing "accelerated convergence" between IT and visual communications.

The IT reseller and services powerhouse this morning announced it is grabbing a "significant stake" in Cisco and Polycom partner avsnet.

The move is in line with SCC CEO James Rigby's recent pledge to continue making small boutique acquisitions.

SCC will merge Chessington-based avsnet with its existing AV arm to form ‘SCC AVS', with avsnet's founder Graham Fry staying on as managing director and retaining an equity stake in the business.

According to its most recent accounts, Cisco Master Collaboration and Polycom Platinum Solution Adviser partner avsnet had an average of 54 staff in its fiscal 2017. The collaboration and communications specialist lists Garmin, Schlumberger and GAP among its clients, and also partners with the likes of BlueJeans, Microsoft, Samsung and NEC.

SCC services managing director Mike Swain flagged up convergence between the worlds of IT and AV as motivation for the deal, a theme that was explored in CRN's recent Audiovisual Reseller Report.

"SCC has had an enviable reputation as an IT solutions provider for over 40 years," he said.

"Now with the accelerated convergence of IT and visual communications this acquisition significantly enhances our existing audiovisual capabilities, creating a market-leading entity that addresses business requirements for the integration of VC and collaborative solutions with industry-leading security, network and cloud services."

Fry added: "With SCC's backing we can now enhance our collaborative portfolio and expand the scale of our services to meet the needs of enterprise customers."
