EasyJet likes similarly named reseller so much it invests in it

Easy Networks joins the group headed by airline founder Sir Stelios Haji-Ioannou

EasyJet founder Sir Stelios Haji-Ioannou has flown into the VAR space by investing in Portsmouth-based Easy Networks.

The comms and networking VAR was founded in 1995 by Richard Gwilliam (pictured above, centre right), who remains managing director of the company.

"Last year, I was invited to talks with Sir Stelios which I thought would be about intellectual property and use of the brand name," said Gwilliam.

"However, after some discussion, we realised we both had the same business values and Sir Stelios invited us to join his ‘easy' family of brands. I went into a meeting prepared for some tough negotiations and walked out with a new business partner!"

The airline founder now becomes a minority shareholder in Easy Networks, operations director Ria White told CRN.

The VAR stated that it will be opening a London office in May as part of a renewed growth strategy.

Easy Networks claimed that the quick change to the familiar orange easyGroup branding has been positively welcomed by its clients.

"For an experienced and successful entrepreneur like Sir Stelios to recognise what we have achieved over the last 24 years and our potential for the future, and to make a personal investment in the business, is a huge compliment," added Gwilliam.

"All the staff were delighted to meet him when he came to see us and we look forward to providing innovative IT services for the same great value, while making a positive and valuable contribution to the brand."

EasyJet founder Haji-Ioannou stated: "We are very pleased to welcome easyNetworks into our easy family of brands.

"This is our first venture in an exciting business sector that offers excellent future growth opportunities.

"Richard and his team bring something new and exciting to the brand and have already impressed colleagues and associates with their enthusiasm and synergistic plans for the future."
