UK sees 'bounce back' in tech job postings - CompTIA
Programmers and software developers the most in-demand roles from UK employers
The UK has seen a resurgence in demand from employers for tech professionals, according to non-profit body CompTIA.
Employers in the UK posted over 166,000 tech roles in Q3, a 33 per cent rise on the number of tech jobs posted in the second quarter, which suffered due to staffing changes spurred on by the coronavirus pandemic
CompTIA reported that the total number of tech roles posted in Q3 was only one per cent lower than during the same period last year, adding that IT jobs accounted for 11 per cent of all job postings in the quarter.
"Even with the difficult decisions organisations were forced to make over the spring and summer, many did all they could to maintain the tech teams that support remote workers, secure data and e-commerce sites and maintain the digital links to customers and partners," said Graham Hunter, VP of skills certification at CompTIA.
Demand for tech professionals spanned across all verticals, from professional services to manufacturing to health and social work.
Programmers and software developers were the most sought-after positions from UK employers with over 67,000 postings. IT business analysts, architects and system designers were the second most in demand positions, followed by IT user web support technicians and web design and development professionals.
Amy Carrado, senior director of research and market intelligence at CompTIA, added: "The number of open positions that offer remote work or work from home options continues to trend upward, with more than 42,000 in Q3, or one in four postings."
CompTIA warned that job postings should not be viewed as an indicator of future hiring, as not every job posting results in a new hire. Rather, it should be seen as a predictor of what companies are considering when it comes to their tech investments and deployments.
