Giant Microsoft partner unveils new identity

GCI the latest UK MSP to announce a new name

GCI has rebranded as Nasstar, continuing a name-changing trend sweeping through the UK MSP and reseller market.

With revenues approaching £120m and 700 staff, GCI has made 20 acquisitions since it was founded in 2000, with AIM-listed Nasstar - purchased for nearly £80m in January 2020 - its biggest and most recent.

Assuming Nasstar's moniker will hand it a "new, clear, and modern identity", CEO Wayne Churchill said.

GCI's facelift follows that of one of its closest like-for-like rivals, IT Lab, which rebranded as Content+Cloud in September following its acquisition of Content+Code in 2018.

York-based Microsoft partner SBL also rebranded as ‘boxxe' on 1 September 2020, with GV Multimedia and Eurotech Computer Services (now ‘GVAV' and ‘ET Works', respectively) among the other members of the CRN VAR 350 to rebrand last year.

GCI's Modality Systems arm survives the rebrand, but will now be known simply as ‘Modality'.

"GCI has grown from some 20 acquisitions since 2000. With the latest addition of Nasstar, acquired in January 2020, it is now time to launch a new, clear, and modern identity for the Group," explained CEO Wayne Churchill.

"Modality Systems has always tended to be known just as ‘Modality', so we are making this simple by creating a distinctive identity that aligns it with Nasstar."

Majority owned by Mayfair Private Partners, GCI boasts offices in Lincoln, Leeds, Manchester, Poole, St Albans and Malaysia, ranking 41st in CRN Top VARs 2020. Its other recent acquisitions include Freedom Communications and Outsourcery.

"Today is more thana name and logo change, we are setting out an intention to continue building a managed services business focused on delivering the vision, the mechanics and the services needed to create transformational change for our clients. We are very excited for the future," Churchill said.
