Dell rolling out software enhancements across its storage portfolio
The innovations come as Dell unleashed a host of new cyber security offerings on day three of its annual Dell Technologies World conference
Dell has announced it will be rolling out more than 500 software enhancements across its storage portfolio.
The PC giant says the innovations across PowerStore, PowerMax and PowerFlex will drive increased intelligence, automation, cyber resiliency and multi-cloud flexibility.
"Organisations all over the world look to Dell to help them move faster while turning their data into a competitive advantage," said Dell vice chairman and co-chief operating officer Jeff Clarke.
"We're delivering major software innovation across our portfolio to help customers make the most of their data and resources."
Dell PowerStore
Innovations on Dell PowerStore will see up to 50 per cent better application performance, 66 per cent more capacity and enterprise file enhancements and new VMware integrations.
The improvements also provide better support and secure file workloads with file level retention, native file replication and support for third-party file monitoring and ransomware protection, Dell said.
Dell PowerMax
PowerMax will introduce cyber resiliency advancements including cyber vaults for traditional and mainframe deployments.
It will also double the performance of new end-to-end NVMe architecture and increase productivity with automated storage operations such as multi-array smart provisioning, workload optimisation, and health monitoring and remediation.
Dell PowerFlex
PowerFlex will introduce file services to simplify workload consolidation and add file support for all major container orchestration platforms.
Customers can also simplify PowerFlex deployment through NVMe-over-TCP connectivity with consistent standards-based storage networking, Dell said.
When will the enhancements be available?
Dell PowerStore, PowerMax, and PowerFlex advancements have planned global availability in the third quarter of 2022.
Eric Burgener, research vice president of infrastructure systems, platforms and technologies group at IDC, said: "Organisations are increasingly seeking IT infrastructure that delivers a cloud-like experience wherever their data lives.
"Dell has designed these sweeping software and hardware enhancements across its comprehensive, multi-cloud infrastructure portfolio to deliver that experience with greater automation, security and control."
Mike Heintzelman vice president of advanced solutions at TD Synnex, added that the innovations will help "organisations simplify IT operations".
He said: "Our customers choose Dell Technologies storage because it is trusted and delivers meaningful innovation that helps organisations keep pace with the changing business and IT landscape.
"The significant software innovations introduced across the Dell storage portfolio will help organisations simplify IT operations, innovate securely and get more value from their data."
Dell revealed the move during its Technologies World event in Las Vegas, which runs from May 2 to May 5.
It has made a range of announcements so far, including new cloud experiences, an expanded SaaS ecosystem and offerings to help customers manage and protect applications across data centres and multi-cloud environments.
