AMD expanding reach into premium Chromebook market with new processors
The new Ryzan 5000 C-Series will bring Zen 3 architecture to premium Chrome OS devices for work and collaboration
AMD has announced its new Ryzan 5000 C-Series processors as it looks to expand into the higher end Chromebook segment.
The chip manufacturer released four new chips with up to 4.5GHz boost frequency, including the Ryzen 3 5125, Ryzen 3 5425, Ryzen 5 5625C, and Ryzen 7 5825C.
The new processors, which are built on Zen 3 architecture, offer all-day battery life and leadership performance with up to eight x86 cores.
They should offer up to 67 per cent faster responsiveness and up to 85 per cent better graphics performance than the previous generation, the vendor claims.
AMD added the Ryzen 5000 C-Series will expand its reach into the premium Chromebook market with new Acer and HP designs.
"AMD is raising the performance bar for modern Chromebooks," said Saeid Moshkelani, senior VP of AMD's client business unit.
"With up to eight cores, the Ryzen 5000 C-Series processors give Chromebook users the flexibility to stay unplugged all day without sacrificing performance and productivity."
The new processors are coming soon in systems from OEM partners in the consumer, education, and enterprise markets.
The Ryzen 7 5825C processor will launch first in the HP Elite c645 G2 Chromebook Enterprise starting in June.
Then later this year, AMD says Acer Chromebook Spin 514 "will bring productivity and collaboration to consumer and enterprise customers in a durable and efficient convertible design".
"We are working closely with AMD to power a new generation of Chromebooks for the consumer and commercial markets," said John Solomon, VP & general manager of Chrome OS at Google.
"These Chromebooks, with AMD's new Ryzen 5000 C-Series processors, are designed for greater efficiency, reliable performance, and sustained battery life to enable increased collaborative productivity in Google Workspace and other business critical applications on Chrome OS."
