Rejoose links arms with Arete Zero Carbon to further boost channel decarbonisation

As a result of the partnership, Arete Zero Carbon will manage the UK and Ireland market for Rejoose, and raise awareness of the SaaS specialist's technology capabilities when it comes to emissions reporting

In a move that will further push decarbonisation up the channel agenda, the new agreement will give even more firms access to accurate emissions data to help them get a grip on their Scope Two and Three emissions.

The two organisations will work together to get even more channel players including vendors, distributors and resellers in the UK&I region, started, or progressed further on their decarbonisation journeys, combining Arete Zero Carbon's expertise with Rejoose's extensive emissions database.

Unlike other players, Rejoose has moved away from traditional spend-based methodology, and is focused on activity-based methodology, a proven more reliable way to report carbon emissions under legislation such as the EU's Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD).

In an exclusive interview with CRN in June, Danish SaaS specialist Rejoose revealed how it holds well over 250 million data points built up over the last 12 years, which are growing by around 12,000 a day, giving channel firms access to fully compliant energy and climate data on over six million SKUs.

Matthew Ruskin, chief commercial officer at Rejoose, said the word is spreading about the importance of more accurate emissions reporting, and that the partnership has come at the perfect time.

"Our activity-based core data still comes from the vendors, but we refine it to incorporate country of use, company use, department use, energy consumption and lifecycle - moving to country-based use data alone makes a huge difference to the figures," he said, adding that the partnership is a major boon to both organisations.

"I strongly believe that this partnership demonstrates the ambitions of both organisations and is a milestone for the IT channel in terms of providing data to support the reduction of carbon emissions across the industry," he said.

"Steve Finnegan [Arete Zero Carbon's managing director] is a big name in this field, and our partnership means real validation for us as a company; he has assessed us as a business, but also our data and our methodology," Ruskin added.

Speaking to CRN, Steve Finnegan said: "Our partnership with Rejoose is unique and we're excited about the opportunity it presents. For many years we have been assisting many different organisations to calculate and reduce their carbon footprint. A common theme has accounted on every occasion. That of data accuracy and transparency. Moving from spend based to supplier specific methods of Scope 3 calculation is what the industry needs to more accurately estimate their environmental impact. This is why we have partnered with Rejoose. Their database holds the most accurate data there is, on the life cycle impact of IT products and provides a means by which any business can improve their reporting."

He added that the timing for the partnership was spot on:

"Over the next few years CSRD will have a noticeable impact on the IT industry, as all businesses will be required to "accurately" disclose the full life cycle environmental impact of every item they purchase and sell," he said. "This is especially important for distributors and resellers as we have seen a significant change in the channel, with end users now making their purchasing decisions on cost and environmental impact."
