Dave Risk
UK&I country manager, Ignition Technology
What's the most surprising lesson 2024 has taught you so far?
Two things really…That it’s possible to catch a 71m high rocket (that had been travelling at over 17,000mph) using a pair of giant mechanical arms! Mental! Secondly, even after 20 years in the industry and working with hundreds of cybersecurity vendors, there seem to be more attacks, breaches, and vulnerabilities than ever before!
If you could have dinner with any historical figure, who would it be and why?
Prince Harry – pre-Megan era for an entertaining evening or Dennis Bergkamp the greatest footballer ever and plays the game in a similar style to me.
Which tech or channel figurehead has impressed you the most this year, and why?
Paul Risk, COO and co-founder of Ignition. He is also my older brother, so it would ruin Christmas if I didn’t mention him. Seeing his journey in the Cyber Security industry, building and selling both reseller and distribution businesses and working for major vendors is inspiring.
What technology trend do you think is being overhyped, and why?
Don’t say AI, don’t say AI……AI! Everyone is talking about it, a third of end users are still scared of it, and not many are actually using it properly.
If you were stranded on a deserted island but could have one piece of tech with you, what would it be?
There’s so much technology in the world; I’d be quite happy to switch off and enjoy the island! But maybe an air tag so the rescue team can find me.
What's your go-to productivity hack that keeps you on track during a busy day?
Taking time to get a 30-minute walk in, it refreshes the mind and is a good opportunity to catch up with colleagues in an informal environment.
If you had the time to learn one new skill, what would it be?
I’ve just started playing Padel, so anything that stops me from smashing the ball into the net.
