What's the most surprising lesson 2024 has taught you so far?

That even when things seem bleak, people can still be incredibly kind, forgiving, and optimistic, and there are so many reasons to remain hopeful.

If you could have dinner with any historical figure, who would it be and why?

Can I cheat and have two?! I’d love to meet Christabel and Sylvia Pankhurst - they co-founded the WSPU with their mother, Emmeline Pankhurst, and campaigned for women to have the right to vote. They were both very active in the suffragette movement but differed in their tactics and their wider political beliefs. It would be fascinating to learn more about their experiences of living through such a turbulent time, including Christabel’s experience of obtaining a law degree but then being unable to work as a lawyer.

Which tech or channel figurehead has impressed you the most this year, and why?

I don’t think I can pick just one so I would say everyone who has been instrumental in spreading awareness of TC4RE (Technology Community for Racial Equality) and the resources and support it offers.

What technology trend do you think is being overhyped, and why?

Biometric technology – it can have an important role to play in authentication but I worry about over-dependency and the impact on those who, as with any form of identification verification, are at risk of being overlooked and disadvantaged due to lack of access to financial or technological resources and/or education.

If you were stranded on a deserted island but could have one piece of tech with you, what would it be?

I love reading so I might have to finally - begrudgingly! - embrace using a Kindle.

What's your go-to productivity hack that keeps you on track during a busy day?

Pen and paper and lots of lists!

If you had the time to learn one new skill, what would it be?

DIY – my dad gave me my own tool set for Christmas a few years ago but my greatest achievement so far is putting up a floating shelf under his careful supervision.
