What's the most surprising lesson 2024 has taught you so far?

How much I am capable of! When I look back over this year, so much has happened professionally and personally that it’s quite overwhelming (engagement, house move, working towards a promotion, travels, many events, new team members, new challenges, and so much more!!) However, I did it! I took every day as it came, managed the stresses as they presented themselves and lived in the moment, and most importantly, enjoyed it!

If you could have dinner with any historical figure, who would it be and why?

The Queen. I’m not an avid royalist, but what a life lived and what wonderful stories and lessons she’d have been able to share.

Which tech or channel figurehead has impressed you the most this year, and why?

As I write this, I’ve just attended the Women and Diversity in Tech and Channel Festival, and I am inspired! All the women, and allies, in the channel that are setting an example and paving the way for the future. It really feels like we’re onto something special here. Keep driving the change, keep challenging the ‘norm’ and keep inspiring others.

What technology trend do you think is being overhyped, and why?

AI… (hear me out!)…as it currently is. For a couple of years, AI has been the buzzword, and I do believe it’s ‘the next big thing’, but are we overhyping it too soon? I feel yes…

Everyone wants to talk about it, but as of yet, there’s little talk about how to monetise it, how to deliver it and what it really is going to be.

If you were stranded on a deserted island but could have one piece of tech with you, what would it be?

Without stating the obvious…(phone), a loaded-up Kindle and I’d be fine!

What's your go-to productivity hack that keeps you on track during a busy day?

Putting my phone in my desk drawer. It’s so easy to get into the habit of clicking onto your screen throughout the day or picking up your phone and finding your way to apps that are not needed for work! Out of sight, out of mind – although I usually end up tapping whatever item ends up on my right-hand side!

If you had the time to learn one new skill, what would it be?

To learn a second language. I’ve dabbled with Duolingo, but it’s not the same as moving to a country and immersing yourself fully and learning a language. I always feel pretty sheepish when I travel and struggle to converse!
